Two old houses on Holbrook Street, eleven suites that all have names, breakfast cooked to order in the Great Room — and L.L. Bean about 250 yards from the front walk. Kept by the same family since 1998.
250 yards from L.L. Bean
Holbrook Street runs straight off Main Street. Park once, leave the car, and walk to the whole of Freeport — the flagship store, the outlets, and more than 170 other shops and restaurants.
Breakfast cooked to order
Omelets made the way you ask, home fries, bacon, cinnamon French toast, homemade jam — and, in season, tomatoes and beans out of the garden behind the inn.
Well-behaved pets welcome
Select rooms are pet friendly, and dog towels are on the house. Abby and Lilly, the family’s yellow labs, have been Applewood staples for years.
Innkeepers, not a front desk
Jay and Jenn Yilmaz have run the Applewood themselves since 1998 — and they are what nearly every review is actually about.
The Great Room, and the cherry harvest table that seats twenty-six.
A house, not a hotel
In May 1998 Jay and Jennifer Yilmaz opened a three-room bed and breakfast at 8 Holbrook Street. By the end of that first year it was the Applewood Inn. In 2002 they opened the house next door.
Today the two buildings hold eleven suites — every one of them named for somebody in the story: the first guests who ever stayed, a German honeymoon couple who nicknamed their room after a mountain, a corporate guest who stayed for months, and the innkeepers’ three children.
Between the two houses sits the Great Room, built around a custom-designed, Maine-made cherry harvest table with seating for twenty-six. Breakfast happens there. So do birthdays, fundraisers and the odd Mediterranean dinner.

Illustrative — breakfast is cooked to order each morning.
Omelets, home fries, and whatever is ready in the garden
Breakfast is cooked to order and served in the Great Room. Guests write about it more than anything else at the inn.
“Not only had spacious, tastefully decorated rooms, a comfortable bed and gorgeously updated bathrooms, it also offered a fantastic breakfast in the morning.” — Tricia L., Yelp
There is a working kitchen garden behind the inn, and in season it turns up on the plate. One guest left still dreaming about the potatoes, eggs and tomatoes.

Almost every review is about the same two people. Here is a sample.
Jay and Jenn are some of the kindest and most generous people you will meet. They run a beautiful inn with exceptional service. The breakfast is phenomenal; yummy omelets with garden fresh veggies and delicious homemade jam.
Jay and his team really make you feel like you are at home. The service was fantastic, I recommend getting the breakfast — it was a large cook up feast that I still think about. I strongly recommend staying here, and it is within walking distance to the shopping in Freeport.
A beautiful and comfortable Inn, where to stay while driving around Maine. Jay is a SUPER host and he made us feel like at home. The rooms were clean and lovely. For breakfast we had the luck to taste their beautiful vegetables grown in the backyard… I’m still dreaming about those potatoes, eggs and tomatoes!

We are dog people
The Yilmaz family is a bunch of dog-lovers. Abby and her daughter Lilly are a big part of the family, and they have become an important staple at the Applewood.
We welcome well-behaved pets in select rooms — we only ask that you respect the guests who might not be so crazy about our four-legged friends, keep dogs off the bedding, and keep your pet well behaved. We are happy to supply dog towels should you need them.
